Ukraine Develops New Bomber and Reconnaissance Drones to Empower Its Military Independence.

The "ZOOM" and "Linza" drones, developed by the Ukrainian company Frontline, represent a significant technological advancement for Ukraine's security and defense forces. Approved for acquisition and deployment after passing codification by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, these drones address critical challenges posed by electronic countermeasures on the battlefield.

First showcased at the DefenceTech Valley event organized by Brave1, these drones utilize a proprietary communication platform called Hertz. This system ensures stable control and secure video transmission, providing the drones with resilience against interference from electronic warfare systems, even under extreme conditions. This capability allows operators to perform reconnaissance missions effectively despite adversarial attempts to disrupt communication.

The "Linza" drone is designed to carry payloads of up to 2 kilograms over distances of up to 10 kilometers. Equipped with a gyro-stabilized camera capable of both daytime and night operation with a 6x hybrid zoom, it combines versatility and durability. Its water-resistant casing allows it to operate effectively in adverse weather, including rain. Already deployed on the front lines, the "Linza" is in serial production, reflecting its operational relevance and integration into ongoing military activities.

The "Linza" also features a compact 8-10 inch quadcopter design, optimized for combined reconnaissance and bombing missions. It supports HD video quality (1080x720) and thermal imaging (640x512) with a 30 fps frame rate. With an operational range of 10 kilometers and flight speeds of 12-15 m/s, it maintains high performance even in challenging weather conditions. Its dual-channel control system, secured with AES 128 encryption, enhances resistance to electronic countermeasures. The drone's ground station, equipped with directional antennas and an advanced telemetry management system, further facilitates its effective use.

The "ZOOM" drone, on the other hand, offers a 40-minute flight time and a tactical range of 15 kilometers. Featuring an integrated visual navigation module, it can maintain its position and perform reconnaissance tasks without operator intervention, even in wind speeds exceeding 10 m/s. Operating at altitudes of up to 200 meters with a minimal margin of error, the "ZOOM" is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera offering 4x optical zoom for high-quality observations and video transmission. Currently undergoing final codification, it is being prepared for serial production, positioning it as a cost-effective alternative to imported models.

"ZOOM" was introduced as a strategic alternative to Chinese DJI Mavic drones, which became unavailable following an export ban on September 1. Designed to operate in hostile environments with electronic warfare systems, "ZOOM" offers flexible reconnaissance capabilities with stable operation even in GPS-deprived areas. Delivered as part of a comprehensive kit that includes a ground antenna, control station, and battery set, it is designed for rapid deployment and ease of use in diverse tactical scenarios.

These drones play a vital role in reducing Ukraine’s reliance on imported drones like the DJI Mavic while strengthening the country’s technological self-reliance. Their deployment enhances the ability of Ukrainian forces to collect real-time intelligence, conduct precision strikes, and operate effectively in contested environments.

"ZOOM" and "Linza" represent a strategic asset in modern warfare, combining advanced reconnaissance features, secure communication systems, and resilience against electronic countermeasures. Their adoption underscores Ukraine’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities through locally developed technological solutions. While the "Linza" is already operational, the "ZOOM" is expected to further expand the tactical capabilities of Ukrainian forces, highlighting the synergy between innovation and strategic military needs in addressing modern conflict challenges.
