According to the delivery plan from 2019 to 2025, the French army will receive a total o 1,892 Griffon 6x6 armored vehicles by 2030 including 196 vehicles in sanitary version. Citing information from the French company Nexter, the manufacturer of the Griffon SAN (SANITARY), the first vehicles will be delivered to the DGA in 2023.
The Griffon is a new generation of wheeled armored vehicles that will replace the VAB 4x4 armored personnel carrier currently in service with the French Army. The main role of the Griffon VBMR is to provide the French Army with a new armored personnel carrier with a high level of protection and mobility.
Since 2019, the French army has already received the delivery of several dozen Griffon vehicles in APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) configuration.
The Griffon SAN has been designed to be used as an ambulance armored vehicle for the evacuation of injured soldiers from the battlefield. The rear part of the vehicle is configured to carry injured soldiers as well as a medical team under protection.
