Russian airborne troops unveil new BMD-4M fitted with Kornet anti-tank missile launchers
During a military parade that was held in the Alabino training range to celebrate the 91st anniversary of the Russian airborne troops, a new airborne anti-tank tracked armored vehicle was unveiled. The vehicle is based on the BMD-4M airborne tracked IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) fitted with Kornet anti-tank missiles.

The new vehicle is based on the chassis of the Russian airborne tracked IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) BMD-4M. The original turret is removed and replaced by a new turret fitted with four launchers of Kornet-D1 ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile).
The BMD-4M is the latest generation of Russian-made airborne armored infantry fighting vehicles that can be para-dropped to provide firepower and support for airborne troops. The vehicle was unveiled in March 2008 and displayed for the first time to the public during the Russia Arms Expo (RAE) in September 2013. The BMD-4M entered into service with the Russian airborne troops in April 2016.
The BMD-4M is motorized with a UTD-29 multi-fuel Diesel engine that develops 500 hp. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 70 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 500 km. The suspension on either side consists of five dual rubber-tired road wheels with the idler at the front, drive sprocket at the rear, and four track-return rollers.
The Kornet is a Russian-made anti-tank laser-guided missile designed and developed by the company KBP Instrument Design Bureau. The missile is able to penetrate explosive reactive armor of a thickness varying between 1,100mm to 1,300mm.
The Kornet missile is designed to destroy armored targets as main battle tanks, light tactical vehicles, and fortifications. The missile can be also used to destroy naval and aerial targets with a range from 150 to 10,000 m.
