Russian army to get several new Arctic vehicles - Part 2

The overhaul and evacuation concept up to 2025 calls to create in the Arctic a maintenance and overhaul workshop in containers carried by cold-weather automobiles. Besides, R&D is nearing completion to create an overhaul and evacuation tracked two-section REM-GT vehicle on the undercarriage of DT-30PM prime mover and technical reconnaissance MTR-G vehicle on the undercarriage of two-section tracked GAS-3344-20 transporter.

The 21st institute proposed to include into the state program of defense industry development up to 2027 an R&D to design dual-purpose components, including rubber goods for automobiles capable of operating at minus 60 degrees Centigrade for at least ten years. An R&D is also necessary to create new types of electrically heated modular batteries with automatic SARTA regulation of electrolyte temperature, as well as onboard autonomous sources of electric and pneumatic power for military vehicles. The institute is ready to provide scientific support.

The growing requirements to Arctic hardware make it necessary to draft new and review acting normative and technical documents, in particular those concerning the microclimate at workplaces, general requirements to living conditions and automatic liquid heaters.

The development of infrastructure and the Arctic force demands new fuels and lubricants to ensure reliable hardware operation at minus 60 degrees Centigrade and brief operation at minus 65 degrees. Fuel and lubricants have to have better low-temperature characteristics and keep other qualities at the required level. The replacement of imported motor oil is vital because of sanctions.

The 25th GosNII and other institutes, design bureaus and oil majors have designed and introduced new highly effective fuels and lubricants with required operational characteristics. The new fuels, lubricants, and liquids have unique temperature and viscosity characteristics to ensure reliable hardware operation in extreme climates. Some new materials are already used. Others will go into production after all trials are completed. The capacities of producers can fully satisfy the needs of the Defense Ministry. The research and obtained practical chemmotological results can ensure the reliability of fuel and lubricants for military hardware in the Arctic.

The conference set several objectives, including the creation of a full-drive three-axis all-terrain vehicle, an automatic mechanical gearbox of 1000 HP for Vezdesushchy vehicles, modification of YaMZ-534 engine of 300 HP for light GAZ-3344-20 and DT-3PM. Outdated technical documents have to be revised and new ones drafted to satisfy the growing requirements to Arctic military vehicles.
