A remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS), or remote weapon station (RWS), also known as a remote weapon system, (RWS) is a remotely operated weaponized system often equipped with a fire-control system for light and medium-caliber weapons which can be installed on ground combat vehicle or sea- and air-based combat platforms. The Naval RWS is especially developed and designed to be used on sea conditions and can be mounted on ships or vessels.

The Trackfire is Remote Weapon Station or Remotely Operated Controlled Weapon Station manufactured by the Swedish Company SAAB that can be mounted vehicles, ships and stationary platforms. Consisting of the Fire Control Panel (FCP), Control Handle (CH) and Gunners Display (GD), the Operator’s Console is intuitive to operate. The menu structure has a simple hierarchy to ensure the operator is able to maintain a visual perspective of the situation picture via the GD, whilst simultaneously having access to all system primary functionality.

Sight and Sensors: As a self-contained sub-system, the Sensor Module provides CCD TV, IR and Laser Range Finder (LRF) channels for the operator. The modular approach allows for a wide range of visual and infra-red sensors to be integrated. A wash/wipe or jet nozzle wash capability can also be incorporated.

Weapons:  A wide range of small, medium and heavy machine guns, Automatic Grenade Launchers (AGL), lightweight medium caliber cannons, as well as Non-Lethal Effects (NLE) can be integrated, many of which can be simultaneously mounted to enable a graded effects capability

Technical data: The turret weighs 140 kg. Traverse is electric through 360° and elevation is also electric from +55° to -20° depending on weapon type.

The Sea deFNder is small caliber stabilized Remote Weapon Station (RWS) or Remotely Controlled Operated Weapon Station especially developed and designed to be used on sea conditions ant that can be mounted on ships or vessels. The Sea deFNder was unveiled at Euronaval in October 2014, International Naval Defense Exhibition that was held in Paris, France. This is the third model in the deFNder® remote weapon stations range, produced by the world’s leading firearms manufacturer, FN Herstal. Engineered for use by naval forces and coastguards, it follows the innovative deFNder® Light and the deFNder® Medium into global service.

Sight and Sensor: The sight module of the Sea deFNder® RWS Remote Weapon Station includes CCD and IR thermal uncooled camera which can be used for day and night combat operations, mounted at the right side. The sight module is available in two variants including a CCD camera + IR uncooled or CCD camera + IR cooled. The turret is connected to an operator console that can be controlled by a control handle consisting of one gamepad or a one-hand joystick. The operator interface features a display console for target identification and engagement, along with the single handle that controls sight selection, aiming and firing. The display unit integrates an LCD color screen which has a resolution of 1024x768 pixels.

Weapons: The Sea deFNder® RWS Remote Weapon Station shares many features of the deFNder® Medium used on land-based vehicles. The Sea deFNder consists of one aluminum weapon mount and universal cradle which is designed to host different types of machine guns including the FN MINIMI 5.56 (M249), FN MINIMI 7.62 (Mk48), FN MAG (M240), FN M2HB-QCB and FN M3R.. It can be also armed with one 40mm automatic grenade launcher.

The SENTINEL 12.7 is a Remote Controlled Weapons Station (RCWS) designed and manufactured by the Spanish Company Escribano. The system is 2 axes gyro-stabilized and it operates day and night for combat, surveillance, target identification, and tracking missions. Specially designed to be integrated naval platforms, this system provides defense capabilities for short and medium ranges with high firing accuracy being a reliable solution against asymmetric threats.

Sight and Sensors:
The sensor unit of the Sentinel 12.7 features state-of-the-art electro-optical sensors for day/night surveillance and an integrated video tracking function as well as a laser range finder.

Weapons:
The Sentinel 12.7 is designed to be armed with a 12.7mm caliber heavy machine gun but the turret could be adapted to integrate 5.56mm and 7.62mm machine guns.

The Sea Protector is a Naval Remote Weapon Station (RWS) developed and manufactured by the Norwegian Company Kongsberg Defence Systems. The Sea Protector can be mounted on interceptors and small patrol boats, the PROTECTOR RWS Sea serves as the main armament. The Typhoon is a family of lightweight stabilized naval weapon systems developed, designed and manufactured by the Israeli Company Rafael.
