Russian Defense Ministry creates a new branch of the Armed Forces – the Aerospace Forces.
Today, during the first teleconference of the year 2016, the Russian Defence Minister has announced the creation of a new branch in the Russian armed forces, the Aerospace Forces. This teleconference has taken place under the leadership of the Head of the military department General of the Army Sergei Shoigu in the National Centre for State Defence Control.

Six missile regiments equipped with stationary and mobile RS-24 Yars complexes were put on combat duty in the Strategic Missile Forces.

The combat capability of the naval strategic nuclear forces was increased. The permanent combat readiness forces received 2 strategic missile submarines Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh.

In accordance to the Russian Defence Minister, it is necessary to strengthen and develop military cooperation with allies and partners.

The head of military department expressed his confidence that successful implementation of all plans is to increase combat potential of the Russian Armed Forces and protection capabilities of the national interests.

The Yars RS-24 Is a Russian-made mobile nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile which can be mounted on truck carrier or deployed in silos. The first production of Yars began in 2004. The layout of the vehicle is similar to the Topol-M SS-27.

The missile RS-24 is a three-stage, solid propellant, MIRV-capable (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles) ICBM (InterContinental Ballistic Missile) with a range of 10,500 km. The missile uses a guidance upgraded system of the inertial and Glonass system used in the RS-12M2 (Topol-M SS-27) missile. The accuracy is expected to be around 250 m CEP (Circular Error of Probability). RS-24 is expected to have a minimum range of 2,000 km, and a maximum range of 10,500 km. The RS-24 missile can be armed with up to 10 warheads.
