The Russian-made Dzhighit support launcher is designed to fire the lgla-1 (SA-16), Igla (SA-18) and Igla-S (SA-24) man-portable air defense missile systems (MANPADS) one-by-one or in a salvo by one operator. It can be deployed on the ground, in a trench, on a truck or on a ship deck.
Armament |
The Dzhighit is armed with two man-portable air defense missile systems ready to fire. The Igla-series are Russian-made man-portable air defense systems which use infrared homing surface-to-air missile. Igla missiles are designed for use against visible targets as tactical aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicle, cruise missile, head-on or receding, in the presence of natural (background) clutter and countermeasures. The reload of the two missiles is performed in less than 3 minutes.
Design |
The Dzhighit consist of a metal frame with a seat for the shooter in the center. One man-portable missile is mounted on each side of the gunner seat with one pistol grip stock to fire each missile. The Dzhighit frame can be broken down into three parts and carried to the selected firing position. In folded position, the system becomes compact and low-observable.
Accessories |
The Dzhighit support launcher is fitted with optical sight for day/night firing, target designation system, IFF (Identification Friend-or-Foe) and other devices. The Dzhighit support launcher is outfitted with operator training equipment and maintenance facilities.
Combat use |
Taking advantage of design features of the lgla-1, Igla and Igla-S SAMs (Surface-to-Air missile), the Dzhighit support launcher can fire them singly or in a salvo of two missiles at one target. This increases the target kill probability by a factor of 1.5 at average. The system provides an increased number of firing channels per gunner and makes his work on duty less tiresome. The Dzhighit system can be mounted on light tactical vehicle or armoured to increase its mobility. Iraq and Libya use the system mounted on 4x4 light tactical vehicle Toyota.
