Description

The LD2000 (LuDun-2000) is a ground-based anti-aircraft air defense weapon system designed, developed, and manufactured by the Chinese Defense Company NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation). The system was unveiled during the defense exhibition IDEX in 2005. Modern critical ground assets are vulnerable to a growing number of precision-guided weapons and aerial threats, particularly to cruise missiles. In response. China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) has developed a unique and effective solution to these threats - the LD2000 Ground-Based Close-In Weapon System based on the proven CIWS of naval application. LD2000 is an effective and efficient weapon system for close-in air defense in various scenarios. With highly accurate firepower and multiple target engagement capability. The LD2000 achieves satisfying hit probability to typical low-altitude, high-speed cruise missile targets. The system is also highly capable of intercepting low-altitude aircraft and UAVs. The LD2000 can intercept flying targets at a velocity of Mach 2 or below. It has a reaction time of 9.8 sec and the capability to track up to 48 targets.

Variants:

- LD-2000 with surface-to-air missile: six launch tubes for the TY-90 Surface-to-Air-Missile are mounted on each side of the turret.

Armament

The LD2000 is fitted with a big remotely controlled turret mounted at the rear of an 8x8 truck chassis. This turret is armed with a seven-barrel 30 mm Type 730B gun. firing both Armour Piercing, Discarding Sabot (APDS) cartridge and High Explosive Incendiary (HEI) cartridge at a selectable rate of a maximum 4200 rds/min, with advanced C-band search radar, Ku-band tracking radar and TV/IR tracking system featuring closed-loop calibration technology, to guarantee fully automatic all-weather target detection and engagement. The LD2000 can fire tungsten APDS and HEI ammunition for improved airborne weapon target destruction. One direct hit of APDS projectile will definitely detonate the warhead of the incoming air-to-ground weapon target. With their engagement range of up to 3 5 km, LD2000 effectively create a protective umbrella around the object to be defended. Their task is to achieve mission-kill against any aerial threat that enters this umbrella, precision-guided munitions, air-to-ground missiles, UAVs, attack-helicopters, etc. The seven-barrelled 30mm cannon is powered by external power, with a maximum cyclic rate of fire of 4,600~5,800 rounds/min. There are two 500-round cylindrical magazines on either side of the gun. A new version of the LD2000 is fitted with six launch tubes for the TY-90 Surface-to-Air-Missile mounted on each side of the turret.

Design and protection

The LD2000 is based on the 8x8 military truck chassis WS-2400 with a crew cab at the front, a shelter for the gunner operators located at the rear of the crew cab, and the weapon station at the end of the truck chassis. A Type 347G tracking radar which has a range of 12 km is mounted on the roof of the cannon turret, along with a day/thermal sighting system, which also incorporates a laser rangefinder. The cannon is operated by a gunner in the fully enclosed module to behind the cab. A low-altitude target search radar is mounted on top of a mast located on the top of the crew cab. In the firing position, two hydraulic stabilizers are lowered to the ground on each side of the truck chassis

Mobility

The weapon station and the shelter for the gunner operators of LD2000 are mounted to the rear of the 8x8 military truck chassis WS2400. The WS2400 is powered by a Deutz turbocharged diesel engine, developing 517 hp. produced under license in China. This truck is fitted with a central tire inflation system. Tyre pressure can be adjusted by the driver while the vehicle is on the move. The WS2400 can run at a maximum speed of 75 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 650 km.

Command and control vehicles

LD2000 includes a combat unit that consists of an Intelligence & Command Vehicle (ICV) and up to eight Combat Vehicles (CV), supported by Ammunition Supply Vehicles (ASV). and other combat support vehicles. Besides the ready-to-service basic configuration and extended configuration, LD2000 also can be upgraded to a multi-layer gun-missile integrated air defense system.
