The ST1 is the export version of the Type 08 tank destroyer 8x8 armored vehicle designed and manufactured by the Chinese Defense Company NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation). The vehicle was unveiled to the public in November 2014 at the Air Show China for the first time.

Armament
The main armament of the ST1 105mm tank destroyer consists of one NATO standard 105mm rifled gun that fires a full range of ammunition as APFSDS (Armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot), HE (High-explosive), HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank), APAM (Anti-Personnel/Anti-Materiel) and gun-launched ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile). The vehicle can carry a total of 30 rounds of 105mm ammunition. A 7.62 mm machine gun is mounted coaxially to the right of the main armament and one 12.7mm machine gun is mounted on the turret roof for anti-aircraft defense. Mounted either side of the turret is a bank of four 76mm electrically operated smoke grenade dischargers which fire over the frontal arc of the vehicle. Turret traverse and weapon elevation are electrohydraulic with manual controls for emergency use with elevation being from -4.5 to +18º and 360° on rotation.

Design and protection
The hull and turret of the ST1 105mm tank destroyer are of all-welded steel armour construction, which provides the crew with protection from small arms fire and shell splinters. Over the frontal arc, protection is provided against penetration from 12.7 mm projectiles and against 7.62mm attack all round. The vehicle can be fitted with add-on armor to increase protection at the front up to 25mm Armour-Piercing Cartridge at a distance of 1,000 m and side protection up to 12.7mm Armour-Piercing Cartridge at a distance of 100m. The driver is seated at the front of the hull offset to the left with the power pack to his right. The turret is mounted on the roof of the hull slightly to the rear of the vehicle's centreline, with the commander, gunner and loader. The rear part of the hull is fitted with a single door.

Mobility
The ST1 105mm tank destroyer is based on the VN1 armored personnel carrier 8x8 chassis. The vehicle is motorized with a water-cooled diesel engine DEUTZ BF6M1015CP developing 440hp. coupled to mechanical transmission. with a synchronizer providing superior performance in tropical zones and deserts. The ST1 uses an 8x8 all-wheel drive independent suspension and axles with differential locks enables the vehicle to achieve excellent cross-country capacity. The ST1 can run at a maximum road speed of 100 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 800 km. The vehicle can cross a vertical obstacle of 0.5 m and a trench of 1.8 m.

Combat Equipment
Standard equipment of the ST1 105mm tank destroyer includes NBC protection system, air conditioning and central tyre inflation system. The ST1 is fitted with latest technologies of stabilized firing system with thermal images to perform firing at night and day conditions against mobile or static targets.
