Armament |
The VBC 90 is fiited with a two-man turret mounted in the center of the hull. The turret is armed with a long-barrelled Giat Industries 90 mm F1 gun with a 35º oblique wedge breech block, a hydropneumatic recoil system, a thermal sleeve and a muzzle brake. There are 20 rounds of ready to use 90 mm ammunition carried, four in the turret basket and 16 in the turret bustle. The empty 90 mm cartridge cases are ejected into a bag under the breech and the commander has an ammunition resupply hatch in the left side of the turret. A further 25 rounds of 90 mm ammunition are carried in the hull. A 7,62mm machine gun is mounted coaxially to the left of the main armament. A bank of two 80mm smoke grenade dischargers is mounted on each rear side of the turret.

Design and protection |
The hull of the VBC 90 is made in all-welded steel armour construction which provides a protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters. The VBC 90 has a crew of three and the vehicle is divided into three compartments: driving at the front, fighting in the centre and power pack at the rear. The driver is seated at the front of the vehicle, gunner and commander are in the turret. The driver has a single hatch with one bulletproof window at the front and a small one on each side. One stowage basket is mounted on each side of the turret.

Mobility |
The VBC 90 is motorized with a Renault MIDS 06.20.45 in-line water-cooled turbocharged 6-cylinder diesel developing 220 hp. at 2,200 rpm coupled to a Renault Transfluid 376 transmission with 5 forward and 1 reverse gears. The VBC 90 uses a 6x6 truck chassis with independent torsion bar suspension and telescopic shock-absorbers. The VBC 90 can run at a maximum speed of 92 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km. The vehicle is able to negotiate gradient up to 50%, side slopes to 30% and natural and engineered trenches of 1m maximum. It can climb a vertical obstacle of 0.5 m and fording depth of 1.2m without preparation. |
Accessories |
Standard equipment of VBC 90 vehicles includes a heater and a power-operated winch mounted internally at the front of the hull on the right side. This is provided with 60 m of cable and has a capacity of 6,000 kg. A white light searchlight is mounted coaxially to the left of the 90 mm main armament and a second white light searchlight is mounted in the forward part of the turret and operated by the commander. The gunner has a sight with a magnification of ×6 (day) and ×6 (night). The firing system of the main armament includes a laser range-finder with range displayed to the vehicle commander with automatic display of target elevation in the gunner's sight.
