Description

The Jackal 1 4x4, is a weapons-mounted patrol vehicle purchased by the United Kingdom under a June 2007 Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It performs a long-range surveillance and reconnaissance role and supplements but does not replace the Land Rover fleet. The vehicle is manufactured at Dunkeswell, Supacat’s Head Office, but Babcock are supporting the production line at Devonport, Freeport regarding the recent MoD order for 70 HMT Jackal Vehicles. Compared to other similar vehicles fielded by the United Kingdom Armed Forces, the Jackal drive tactical vehicle will offer greater firepower, payload, range and mobility. The UK Ministry of Defense purchased 130 MWMIK/Jackal vehicles to supplement Land Rover-based vehicles to be deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan beginning in early 2008. As of April 2008, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) plans call for the procurement of 200 vehicles.

Technical Data

Armament
The Jackal 1 also boasts a significant amount of firepower, mounting a 7.62 mm GPMG on the crew protection which is operated by the Commander of the vehicle, and either a 12.7 mm machine gun, 40 mm grenade launcher or another heavy or light machine gun can be fitted to the ring mount operated by the Top Gunner.
Design and protection
The protection crew of the Jackal 1 is afforded by the Blast and Ballistic protection systems supplied by Jankel Armouring, in addition to the ECM suites fitted as standard to the vehicle. Besides, the Jackal 1 can be provided with an add-on armor kit which increases the vehicle's weight above 6 tons.
Mobility
The Jackal 1 is powered by a 5.9 liters Cummins ISBe Euro3 engine.
Accessories
The Jackal 1 can be fitted with the BOWMAN communications equipment.
