KAYA MRAP
Mine Resistant Ambush Protected 4x4 armored vehicle - Türkiye
Description
KAYA 4x4 is specially designed to provide mine and ballistic protection for the troops on all terrain conditions while offering high mobility, ease of handling, and outstanding crew comfort. Otokar's know-how and experience in mine-protected vehicles played an important role in the design and development process of the KAYA. Kaya Otokar is the 4x4 MPV mine-protected armored vehicle based on a Daimler UNIMOG chassis.
Status
Production as required. KAYA is in service of different land forces.
KAYA MRAP variants:
- Kaya Troop Carrier: The first version of the Kaya MPV is in the troop carrying role but its flexible design enables it to be easily adapted for a wide range of roles and missions such as ambulance and command post vehicle.
- Kaya Cargo Carrier: In addition to the baseline Kaya MPV in the APC role, Otokar has also developed the prototype stage of a mine-protected cargo carrier. This retains the fully protected two-person cab for the commander and driver but to the rear is a flatbed unprotected cargo area that can be fitted with drop sides and a tailgate.

Design and protection |
Otokar Kaya has two compartments, one for the driver and commander behind the engine compartment and the second for the troop compartment that extends to the rear of the vehicle. The front and rear compartments are of all-welded steel armor with an appliqué layer of armor for enhanced protection. The driver is seated at the front left with the commander to the right with a large bulletproof window to their front. Both of these crew members are provided with a forward-opening door with a bulletproof window in the upper part. The troop compartment is at the rear with the lower part in V-shape for a higher level of protection against anti-tank mines. Ten troops are seated on individual seats five down either side facing inwards with the seats being attached to the sides of the vehicle and not the floor. The troop compartment has three firing ports associated with bulletproof windows and three roof hatches. The troops can rapidly enter and leave the vehicle via the door in the rear.

Mobility |
Otokar Kaya MPV is based on a Daimler Chrysler U5000 (4 x 4) UNIMOG chassis which has a high level of cross-country mobility and for which spare parts are available worldwide through a well-established dealer network. The engine compartment at the front of the vehicle is protected from ballistic threats and there is also armor protection around the wheel arches for enhanced protection against mines. The Kaya MPV is motorized with a 4-cylinder diesel developing 218 hp at 4,000 rpm. The Kaya MPV can run at a maximum road speed of 96 km/h with a maximum range of 800 km. |
Combat Equipment |
A spare wheel is carried externally on the right side of the hull and external stowage boxes are provided on the lower part of the hull to free up additional space inside of the vehicle. The Kaya MPV has a central tire inflation system and a run-flat tire system in the standard configuration and automatic fire detection and suppression system is optionally provided. |
