JAIS N35 NIMR
JAIS 4x4 and 6x6 MRAP NIMR Automotive
Wheeled multipurpose modular mine protected vehicle United Arab Emirates
Description
The JAIS formerly called N35 is a wheeled mine-protected infantry armored vehicle manufactured by the Defense Company NIMR Automotive in the United Arab Emirates. The vehicle is based on the RG35 designed and developed in South Africa. In November 2015, Denel Vehicle Systems has signed a contract with NIMR Automotive in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to provide the development and supply of advanced mine-protected vehiclesN35 (previously RG35) armored vehicles. A prototype of the vehicle was delivered at the NIMR plant in UAE to be upgraded with a new electrical system and being evaluated for additional upgrades and the integration of third-party equipment. According to the NIMR Automotive CEO Dr Fahad Saif Harhara, the Company has bought the rights of RG35 because the vehicle is one of the best armored vehicle available in the military market combining high performances in terms of performance, protection, payload and mobility, as well as the flexibility of the design, which lends itself to development as a multi-mission family of vehicles. The RG-35 can be transported by military transport aircraft as the A400M or larger aircraft.
JAIS 4x4 and 6x6 MRAP variants:
The JAIS N35 is also available in a 6×6 configuration. It can also be configured into all variants such as IFV Infantry Fighting Vehicle, ambulance, weapon carrier, and command posts.
Technical Data
Armament |
The roof of the JAIS N35 4x4 mine-protected infantry armored vehicle can be fitted with a full range of one/two-man light and medium turrets armed with weapons up to 20mm caliber. As all modern combat vehicles, the N35 can also be fitted with a remote weapon station (RWS) armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun. This type of weapon system consists of a sophisticated weapon tower featuring electro-optical sights and allows the system to be operated from inside under the armor of the vehicle with a high degree of precision. At the edition 2017 of IDEX, International Defense Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, the JAIS 6x6 was shown in IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) variant fitted with a remotely controlled turret EVPU Turra 30 armed with a 2A42 30mm dual-feed cannon, and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun mounted to the left of the main armament.

Design and protection |
The design of the JAIS N35 4x4 mine-protected infantry armored vehicle consists of three main parts with the driver and commander positions located at the front of the hull, the engine on the left side of the hull, and the troop's compartment at the rear. For the N35, there is no more nose section where is fitted the engine as for many modern armored vehicles which offer 1.5 meters of more space inside the vehicle. There is a large widescreen at the front of the hull which provides an excellent field of view for the driver and commander with no engine section at the front. Crew survivability is centered around a battle-proven “crew citadel” protection system, protecting against mine, IED and ballistic threats. The vehicle is composed of ballistic steel and it has a v-shaped mine-protected hull. The N35 provides ballistic protection up to STANAG 4569 Level 4 (14.5×114mm AP / B32 at 200 meters with 911 m/s) and mine protection STANAG 4569 up to Level 4A/4B (10 kg of mine blast explosion under the wheels 4a and floor 4b). The troop's compartment can accommodate a total of 7 military personnel including a gunner with an internal under armor of 11m³. There is one hydraulic door at the right side of the hull and one large hydraulically operated ramp at the rear of the hull, which has a small hatch in the center. On each side of the hull there is three small bulletproof windows that can provide all-around situational awareness to the troops inside the vehicle. There is one roof hatch on the top at the front and the rear of the vehicle. The N35 has a length of 5.96 meters, a width of 2.7 meters and a roof height of 2.56 meters, with a ground clearance of 443 millimeters. The gross vehicle mass of the N35 is 18,500 kg with a maximum payload of 4,300 kg.

Mobility |
The JAIS N35 4x4 mine-protected infantry armored vehicle is motorized with a Caterpillar engine developing 450 hp. coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The powerpack is mounted on the left side of the hull rather than the traditional front or rear mounting. The engine and gearbox are mounted on sliding rails with a single door to slide the powerpack outside from the vehicle to simplify maintenance. It can be removed and replaced in less than 45 minutes. The N35 can run at a maximum road speed of 105 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. The N35 uses two axles with large road wheels and double wishbone independent suspension offers high mobility in all-terrain conditions. The N35 can negotiate a gradient of 60%, climb a vertical obstacle of 600mm and cross a trench of 1,000 mm. |
Accessories |
The JAIS N35 4x4 mine-protected infantry armored vehicle standard equipment includes a power management system, run-flat tire system, and central tyre inflation system. A self-recovery winch is mounted at the front of the hull. In option, the N35 can be fitted with a full range of equipment as an RPG (Rocket-propelled grenade) protection system, Battlefield Management System (BMS), C4I System, night/day vision, SAS (Situational Awareness System), and display monitor. The N35 is also fitted with roof-mounted mine-blast protected seats for all crew and troops. The blast protection seats are designed to minimize the potential for injury to occupants when the vehicle detonates a mine. |
