The Sherpa Light Special Forces is a member of the Sherpa Light family, a 4x4 light tactical armoured designed and manufactured by the French Company Renault Trucks Defense. This version was especially design to offer high-mobility and firepower for Special Forces Units. This vehicle is ideally suited for long range, off-road patrols. The Sherpa Light SF is fully air transportable by military transport aircraft as C-130 or A400M.

Armament |
The Sherpa Light SF (Special Forces) is fitted with a ring mount weapon station mounted in the center of the troops compartment which is armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun. One 5.56mm or 7.62mm can be mounted on a swivel station mounted on each side at the rear of the hull. Another 5.56mm or 7.62mm machine gun can be mounted on a swivel station on the right door at the front of the vehicle. In 2013, during the SOFINS, the French Special Forces Exhibition in France, the French Company Renault Trucks Defense has presented a version of the Sherpa Light Special Forces (Light) and Sherpa Light Carrier armed with a 20-mm gun as a replacement for 12.7-mm machine gun.

Design and protection |
The Sherpa Light SF (Special Forces) uses an open top architecture with armoured protection at the front and on each side of the vehicle. The crew is also protected by a tubular frame roll-bar. Each side of the vehicle is protected against firing of small arms 7.62mm caliber as well as the crew compartment at the front. The Sherpa Light SF can also be fitted with a ballistic and mine kits to increase the protection of the crew without any loss of mobility or payload.

Mobility |
The Sherpa Light SF (Special Forces) is motorized with Renault MD-5, a four-cylinder high-pressure common rail injection Euro 4 engine developing 215hp. The engine delivers a maximum torque of 800nm at 1,200-1,700rpm. The engine is coupled to an automatic transmission Allison S2500 with six forward gears and one reverse gear. The Sherpa SF can run at a maximum speed of 120 km/h on flat road surface. The cruising range of the vehicle is 850 km at 70 km/h with a 200 liter fuel tank capacity. The suspension provides a high ground clearance for the vehicle. The front suspension is equipped with pushing arms with coil springs and the rear suspension is fitted with trailing arms with coil springs. The other suspension components include telescopic shock absorbers and a stabiliser bar. The Sherpa Light SF is able to climb a gradient of up to 100 %, negotiate a side slope of 40 % and cross a 0.9 m deep trench, and has a fording capability of 1.5 m.

The Sherpa Light SF (Special Forces) is especially design to offer a payload of 2,600 kg maximum including several compartments for ammunition, fuel, spare parts, military survival kit which gives a long operating range. Standard equipment of the vehicle includes a Central Tyre Inflation System (CTSI), a run-flat tyres system and modern radio equipment. A self-recovery winch is mounted at the front of the vehicle and a spare wheel at the right side.
