Design and protection |
The Streit Group Spartan 4x4 Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) follows a standard layout, featuring the engine at the front, crew in the middle, and troop compartment at the rear. Constructed from all-welded steel armor, the Spartan's hull provides protection against 5.56 x 45 assault rifles, 7.62 x 51 sniper rifles, and shell splinters. In urban settings, the roof is designed to offer the same protection level as the sidewalls. For comprehensive blast protection, the fuel tank is strategically placed, and the vehicle body is reinforced for added structural strength in case of accidents. The floor is equipped with blast protection to safeguard occupants against fragmentation resulting from the detonation of 2 DM-51 German ordnance hand grenades or equivalent light anti-personnel mines. Optionally, additional ceramic and composite armor add-on plates can be installed. The crew cab features a large one-piece windscreen, accommodating a six-man crew, but the Spartan can be reconfigured to carry up to 12 infantrymen. On each side of the vehicle, there are two doors with armored windows and a firing port. Additionally, there are two small armored windows with firing ports on each side at the rear of the hull. Troops enter and exit the Spartan through a single door without a central pillar in the rear of the hull, equipped with two small bullet-proof windows and one firing port.
