Description

The VP8 is a 4x4 light armoured vehicle developed and manufactured by the Chinese Company Norinco. The VP8 is designed based on a technically mature cross-country military vehicle chassis. The VP8 is mainly intended for local wars including anti-riot, anti-terrorism, peacekeeping operations and urban warfare to safeguard internal security.

Armament

The VN8 is fitted with a one-man open-roof armoured turret mounted at the front top hull which can be armed with a machine gun up to 12.7mm caliber. Three smoke grenade dischargers are mounted on each side of the turret.

Design and protection
The layout of the VP8 is standard with the engine at the front, the crew in the middle and the troop's compartment at the rear. The hull of the VP8 is of all-welded steel construction, protecting the crew from small arms fire and shell splinters. In the case of city riots and in other special circumstances, the VP8 provides effective protection and fire support for the crew to effectively disperse a mob. The driver and infantry man facing two large bullet proof main windows can enter and exit the vehicle from forward opening doors on either side of the vehicle. Each door is fitted with a bullet proof window with firing port, and provides a clear view to the infantry men sitting inside the vehicle. Two more bulletproof windows with firing port are available on each side of the hull. Norinco has optimized the ergonomic design to keep the crew in the best working status for a long time.
Propulsion
The VP8 is motorized with a water cooled diesel engine developing 118 kW. The VP8 can run at a maximum road speed of 100 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 800 km. The vehicle can climb a gradient of 60%, a side slope of 30% and cross a trench of 0.8 m.
Accessories
Standard equipment of the VP8 includes air conditioning and central tyre inflation system, but in option the vehicle can be equipped with communication system, driver night vision, GPS and NBC protection system.
