Description
The SOKO SP RR is a 6x6 Self-Propelled Rapid Response truck-mounted howitzer designed and manufactured by the Serbian Defense Company YugoImport. The SOKO was unveiled during the SOFEX 2010 in Jordan, presented for the first time to the public during the defense Exhibition Partner 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia. The SOKO SP RR 122 mm is a truck-mounted gun-howitzer based on integration of 122 mm D-30 J howitzer with 6x6 truck chassis. The SOKO SP RR 122 mm truck-mounted howitzer family represents a modern artillery system, particularly intended for modern joint combat units and rapid deployment forces, highly integrated at brigade, regiment and battalion level, intended for rapid response to challenges of modern digital battlefield, characterized wide range of tactical scenarios low and high intensity conflicts, including large antiterrorist and anti-guerrilla operations. SOKO 122 mm is modern artillery system primarily intended for fast interventions and quick response to the challenges of contemporary warfare. The main characteristics of the weapon are its high fire power thanks to long range of 21 km with HE/BB projectile, possibility of engagement in immediate firing, high rate of fire, as well as high combat autonomy achieved with large combat set of ammunition containing 50 projectiles and charges, high tactical and operational mobility, short time required for transition from travelling into combat position and firing, armor protection of the cabin module with ammunition compartment and of the weapon installed in the turret, high level of automation and introduction of contemporary FCS (Fire Control System).

Armament
The main armament of the SOKO SP RR consists of a 122mm 35 caliber D-30 J howitzer. The SOKO 122mm howitzer fires HE ammunition with a maximum range of 17.3 km and HE/BB with a maximum range of 21 km. The 122mm howitzer is equipped with a semi-automatic ammunition loading system. The vehicle carries a total of 51 ammunitions. A 7.62mm machine gun is mounted on the top of the combat turret. When the system is deployed in the firing position two stabilisers are hydraulically lowered at the rear to provide a more stable firing platform. Elevation and traverse is hydraulic with manual controls being provided as a back-up. For direct firing elevation ranges from -7° to +65°, with traverse between 35 º left and 35º right. Maximum rate of fire is 6 rds/min. according to YugoImport. The SOKO can come into action, fire in less than 60 sec. and leave its firing position in 30 sec.
Design
The SOKO SP RR 122mm is based on 6x6 truck chassis with a crew cabin at the front of the vehicle and an armoured turret at the rear of the chassis. The crew cabin and the turret provide a protection Level 1 STANAG 4569, ballistic protection against firing of small arms 7.62x51 NATO caliber and blast protection against hand grenades unexploded artillery fragmenting sub-munitions, and other small anti-personnel explosive devices detonated under the vehicle. A door is mounted at the left side of the turret which is used by the operators to leave and enter inside the combat compartment. At the rear part of the crew cabin there is one storage box to carry ammunitions.
Mobility
The SOKO 122 SP RR 122mm self-propelled howitzer uses a 6x6 truck chassis FAP 2228, a Serbian-made medium cross-country military truck. The vehicle is motorized with Daimler Chrysler OM 906 LA, Euro 3; 6.37 lit. developing 279 hp. coupled to a mechanical transmission with 6 gears. The SOKO is able to reach a maximum road speed of 100 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. The SOKO can cross a vertical step of 630 mm and fording depth of 1.2 m without preparation. The vehicle is able to negotiate slope up to 60% and side slope to 30%.
Accessories
Standard equipment of the SOKO SP RR 122mm howitzer includes fire control system with ballistic computer, central inflation system, one 10 t hydraulic winch.
