Description
The Fath-360 is a tactical surface-to-surface ballistic missile system developed by Iran. It is engineered for rapid deployment and high-precision strikes, making it a crucial asset within Iran's military arsenal. The missile system is satellite-guided, solid-fueled, and designed for point-targeting, delivering both speed and accuracy in combat scenarios. It is particularly vital for the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), where it serves as a key tool for executing short-range precision strikes against enemy air defenses.
First publicly unveiled in April 2022 during Iran's "Army Day" celebrations, the Fath 360 is part of Iran’s broader initiative to expand and modernize its ballistic missile capabilities, which are among the most extensive in the Middle East. The missile system is designed for swift deployment and accurate targeting, with an operational speed of Mach 3. When connected to satellite guidance systems, it can reach speeds of up to Mach 4, allowing for rapid identification and destruction of targets. With a range of 100 to 120 kilometers, the Fateh-360 is highly effective in short-range tactical operations. It has been actively showcased in military exercises, such as the Eqtedar-1401 maneuvers, highlighting its readiness and strategic importance in Iran's defense strategy.
On August 9, 2024, Reuters reported that dozens of Russian military personnel are undergoing training in Iran to operate the Fath-360 close-range ballistic missile system. According to two European intelligence sources, these preparations are expected to lead to the imminent delivery of hundreds of these satellite-guided missiles to Russia for use in its ongoing war in Ukraine.
