The PRV-9 Thin Skin is a Soviet-made E band height finding radar. The radar can be mounted on a military truck or on a trailer. It was used for measuring of the elevation angle and height calculation in low, middle and large heights for short to medium range.
The antenna of the PRV-9 Thin Skin is mounted on the roof of KraZ-214 6x6 military truck. The PRV–9 and its power supply was developed on two trailer, a transmitter/receiver cabinet with the antenna's turn table, and a cabinet with the independent electric power generator (diesel-engine). The radar can detect aerial threats at a range from 155 to 160 km and an altitude from 1 to 12 km. The PRV-9 is protected against active and passive jamming.
Design and protection
The PRV-9 Thin Skin is based on the chassis of the KraZ-214 with a crew cabin mounted at the front of the vehicle and a shelter at the rear with the antenna mounted on the roof.
Mobility
The first version of the PRV-9 Thin Skin was mounted on two trailers. The KrAZ-214 is an off-road truck 6x6 for all-terrain operations. It was manufactured at the YaMZ plant from 1956-1959, after which production was moved to KrAZ. The truck is motorized with a 6.97 L diesel engine 6 cylinder.
