Description

The 6S8 and 6S8-1 are 12.7mm sniper rifle designed and manufactured by the Russian firearms manufacturer Degtyarev . Founded in Kovrov in 1916 the machine-gun plant has been providing the Armed Forces of the country with infantry and gun weapons for over 80 years. Presently the Degtyarev plant is producing revolvers, machine guns, aircraft guns, anti-aircraft guns, anti-tank guns and rocket systems. The 12.7mm sniper rifle fitted with optical and night sights is designated 6s8. The 12.7mm sniper rifle fitted with an optical sight is designated 6s8-1. In December 2012, the Russian Defense Ministry has announced the purchase of Degtyarev 6S8-1 12.7-mm for the Russian Armed forces with the first delivery in 2013.

Technical Data

Design

The 6S8/6S8-1 is a a 5-round rifle with the sliding bolt action, compiled by the bullpup scheme. For firing it used 12.7x107mm sniper ammunition. The rifle is fed from the 5-round detachable box magazine. The receiving hole is situated between the pistol grip and butt stock. Magazine provided with a plastic plate, allowing using it as an additional support for the left hand of a shooter. The muzzle brake that is mounted on the barrel reduces the recoil force. Butt plate is provided with a shock absorber. This allows the shooter to make a few dozen shots without experiencing any discomfort in his shoulder.

The five rounds magazine is fitted at the rear of the pistol grip. Security selector on the right side near the magazine with secure and firing position.

Cartridges fired (12.7x107 mm):
- 12.7mm 7N34 sniper cartridge;
- 12.7mm BZ cartridge with the B 32 bullet;
- 12.7mm BZT-44 cartridge;
- 12.7mm BZT-44M cartridge.

Sights

The 6s8 / 6S8-1 can be equipped with optical and night sights. When mounting the optical sight, this sight leaf leans to the right. Optical and night sights are set on the Piccatinny rail, on the top of the receiver. It can be equipped with T5000 optical sight.

Combat use

The 12.7mm 6S8 and 6S8-1 sniper systems are designed to engage soft-skin and lightly armored armaments and materiel, as well as exposed enemy manpower wearing body armor, single and multiple targets, and other hardware at a range of up to 1.500 m.
