"If
the procurement contract with the Philippines is approved, those planes
will be delivered in 18 months after the contract is signed," deputy
Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsuddin said. The order for the plane was placed with the Kital Philippine Corp as part of a 2004 military hardware procurement programme, and the relevant contract was signed, two years later. Even though the planes are fitted with Israeli technologies, Sjafrie assured that there was no contact with Israel regarding the plane procurement plans. "We will not buy them from Israel. We do not have diplomatic ties with Israel," Sjafrie said. Indonesia has never established diplomatic ties with Israel as the country is opposed to Israeli occupation on Palestine. The unmanned reconnaissance planes are assembled in the Philippines. It has flight range up to 400 kilometers and 20-hour flight for a single go. It is fitted with infrared camera that enables it to operate at night time. |
