Peru receives first batch of KAI's KT-1P Woongbi training aircraft
 
Korea Aerospace Industries announced on November 7 the delivery and deployment ceremony of KT-1P aircraft's first batch. The event was held both in celebration of delivery of the first batch of 2 units among the total 20 KT-1Ps for which Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd (KAI) signed a contract of approximately $200 million with Peru in November 2012 and the deployment of those aircraft in the South American country with the Peruvian President Ollanta Humala.

Ha Sung-yong, president of KAI, Jang Keun-ho, the Korean ambassador to Peru and Choi Cha-gyu, the Air Force Chief of Staff from Korea participated in the function.

KAI, which was validated for its thorough aircraft operation and support activity including the business performance ability via the delivery of the KT-1P aircraft enhanced its external trustworthiness for the homegrown aircraft from foreign countries.

With the assistance of the Korean Air Force, KAI has educated the Peruvian Air Force's pilots and repairmen since a deal with Peru, helping the country's air force run the KT-1P aircraft smoothly.

In November last year, KAI completed its local production base in the Peru's air force unit, situated at Las Palmas, Peru and dispatched its technicians there to teach the local workers about the production education, preparing for the local joint production.

KAI is going to produce 16 units of the total 20 KT-1Ps in the local joint production factory in Peru and deliver them to the Peruvian Air Force. The first locally produced airplane will be released around August next year.

Peru will replace the existing old and superannuated EMB-312 and MB-339, manufactured by Brazil and Italy and operated by its Air Force with the KT-1P. The country has a plan to fully deploy the KT-1P to its Air Force by 2016.
