Aeronautics' new Orbiter 1K Kingfisher MUAS to be unveiled at Paris Air Show 2015 | |||
The
Israeli company Aeronautics recently announced it will unveil for the
first time a Mini UAS in the loitering category at Paris Air Show 2015.
The Orbiter 1K "Kingfisher" is a new loitering unmanned aerial
system, based on the combat proven, mature Orbiter 2 MUAS fitted with
a fuselage adapted for explosive payload. |

Aeronautics' new Orbiter 1K shares the same structure as the Orbiter 2 |

Launched from a
catapult, the Orbiter 1K can fly for 2-3 hours, carrying an EO/IR camera
and up to 2 kg of "special payload", such as explosive. The
loitering system is compact and easily controlled from a personal GCS. This new product is designed for military applications: intelligence; land and maritime loitering missions. Given a specific waypoint, the loitering Orbiter 1K can detect and destroy a moving or a stationary target. The Kingfisher MUAS is equipped with an avionics package with automatic flight control guidance. The system can also operate on the base of a given area range: the Orbiter 1K independently scans the area, detects and destroys the target – moving or stationary. In case the target wasn’t detected or in any change of plans, the system’s recovery capability allows it to return to its base camp and land safely using a parachute and an airbag, or a net. According to IsraelDefense, the Orbiter 1K is expected to become operational soon. |
