Boeing has supported the U.S. Air Force’s ICBM mission since 1958. Boeing innovations and expertise are integral to the U.S. Air Force’s efforts to sustain Minuteman III, the land-based element of the nation’s nuclear triad. Boeing has improved each of three generations of the Minuteman ground, guidance and propulsion systems.

The LGM-30 Minuteman is a US land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), in service with the Air Force Global Strike Command. As of 2015, the LGM-30G Minuteman III version is the only land-based ICBM in service in the United States.

The current ICBM force consists of 450 Minuteman III missiles located at the 90th Missile Wing at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming; the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom AFB, Montana; and the 91st Missile Wing at Minot AFB, North Dakota.

As an intercontinental ballistic missile, the Minuteman III can hit targets at distance of more than 9,600 km (6,000mi) with a speed of approximately 24,000km/h (15,000mph) at burnout.
