First Belgian NH-90 Squadron Achieves Initial Operational Capable (IOC)
 
The Belgian Air Componant (Composante Air / Luftcomponent) announced this week that its NH-90 Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) achieved its Initial Operational Capability (IOC). Four NH-90 TTH have been orderen for Belgian Armed Forces, as well as four NH-90 NFH (Nato Frigate Helicopter).

On Wednesday, May 20, Air Force major general Frederik Vansina will announce that Belgian 18th Squadron (1st Wing) officialy achieves « Initial Operational Capable » (IOC).

NH-90 helicopter will now be able to accomplish personnel and cargo transport missions, both in Belgium and abroad. The next step to be achieve is the « Full Operational Capability » for which trainings already start.

This step will lead to the acquisition of military flight maneuvers competencies for the purpose of complex mission in hostile environment, togheter with others land and aerial weapon systems.

The TTH version of NH90 is configured to provide the highest level of utility based operations through the use of its versatile design and role fit features. From its operating base, it is able to self ferry or be transported by ship or air to the combat area. It is then able to operate from a forward base in a harsh combat environment, without a heavy support infrastructure to provide a number of utility roles including the ability to fly nap-of-the-earth flight patterns.
