"Two brand-new Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopters will soon come to the Eastern Military District’s air base in the Khabarovsk Territory. They will be used for training and combat missions in the daytime and at night. For this purpose, the helicopters are fitted out with up-to-date navigation aids affording them the all-weather operation capability," Gordeyev said.

He added that three brand-new Mi-8AMTSh helicopters had been received at the Ulan-Ude Aircraft Plant. They will have reinforce the inventory of the air base in the Khabarovsk Territory before year-end.

The Ka-52 attack/scout helicopter is designed for dealing with enemy combat vehicles, including armored ones, personnel and low-speed aircraft. The helicopter can fight round the clock in any weather. Its two crewmen are seated side by side in a single cockpit. The Ka-52’s weapons suite comprises both unguided and guided munitions, including the Khrizantema and Germes antitank missiles. The helicopter carries a 30-mm automatic gun and is capable of operating in any climes, be they hot, high or arctic.

The Mi-8AMTSh troop-carrier/attack helicopter is an upgraded variant of the baseline Mi-8 utility helicopter. It is designed to destroy enemy hardware, including armored vehicles, and shelters, weapon emplacements and manpower as well. In addition to ‘dumb’ munitions, its weapons suite includes precision-guided weapons, such as the 9M120 Ataka and 9M114 Shturm antitank guided missiles. The Mi-8AMTSh carries up to 37 troops, 12 casualties on the litters or 4 tons of cargo and can be used in the search and rescue and casualty evacuation roles. The helicopter is equipped by a pair of enhanced-power Klimov VK-2500 engines. Its cockpit has multifunction displays with digital maps and advanced flight/navigation equipment compatible with the GPS and GLONASS positioning systems. The Mi-8AMTSh features an extended service life allowing a hefty servicing cost reduction during its life cycle.
