The
new version of the Airbus' Tigre attack helicopter, known as Tigre HAD
(Hélicoptère d'Attaque et de Destruction) has been presented
to the public by the Spanish Army on March 4, at the "Coronel Maté"
airbase in Colmenar Viejo (Madrid), Headquarters of the Spanish Army Airmobile
Forces. |

The
Tigre HAD was exposed to the media, which could see it in static and flight
one of the first two units that have been delivered over a total of 18
acquired by the Spanish Army. The Tigre helos will be flight by the Attack
Helicopter Battalion ( BHELA) I, in Almagro (Ciudad Real) according to
the delivery schedule established with the company Airbus Helicopters.
The two first Tigre HAD helicopters were delivered to the Spanish Army in last December. This new version, also called "the Spanish one", will replace the one currently in use, which is the French version or HAP (Helicopter d'Appui et de Protection), of which BHELA I has six units. These six units were deployed in Afghanistan. The Tigre
HAD offers numerous advantages and significant improvements,
especially in weapons, engine and sight; among other differences, include
additional 500 kilos in maximum takeoff weight to achieve the 6,600
kilos, the increase of the engine capacity by 14%, an additional ballistic
protection for pilot and shooter cockpits, the installation of a second
radio, the replacement of analogue recording data by a digital one,
an improved viewfinder and the ability to mount 70 mm-rocket launchers.
