Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $5,370,955,495 contract to the previously awarded low-rate initial production Lot IX F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter advance acquisition contract. This contract provides procurement for 41 F-35 JSF fighters, including 26 F-35As for the US Air Force; six F-35As for Norway; seven F-35As for Israel; two F-35As for Japan; 12 F-35Bs, including six for the US Marine Corps and six for the British Royal Navy; and two F-35Cs for the US Navy.

Work is expected to be completed in December 2017.

The JSF program reaches another important milestone last week when the F-35A Lightning II completed the first three airborne gunfire bursts from its internal Gun Airborne Unit (GAU)-22/A 25mm Gatling gun system during a California test flight, Oct. 30. This milestone was the first in a series of test flights to functionally evaluate the in-flight operation of the F- 35A’s internal 25mm gun throughout its employment envelope.
