China's domestic-built J-20 stealth fighter will make its public debut at an air show in Zhuhai City next week, with air-force pilots flying the new-generation warcraft, a military spokesperson said Friday. With its J-20 next-gen fighter jet, China could narrow the military gap with the United States.

The development of the J-20 is progressing as scheduled, and it is expected to further boost the fighting capacity of the Chinese air force, said Shen Jinke, spokesperson of the People's Liberation Army Air Force, at a press conference.

In June 2016, the PLAAF said the jet would enter service "in the near future". Some analysts have said photographs of the J-20 suggest China may be making faster-than-expected progress in developing a rival to Lockheed Martin's radar-evading F-22 Raptor.

The J-20 made its first flight on 11 January 2011. Only few details emerged about the J-20 technical specifications, but analysts suggested the production aircraft is belived to be powered by the WS-15, a turbofan engine currently under development.

The aircraft features a glass cockpit, with two main large color liquid crystal displays (LCD) situated side-by-side, three smaller auxiliary displays, and a wide-angle holographic head-up display (HUD). According to analysts, the J-20 could features the Type 1475 AESA radar.
