Algeria ordered eight Mi-26T2 heavy-lift helicopters in 2015

Algeria ordered eight Russian Mi-26T2 (NATO reporting name: Halo) heavy military-transport helicopters in 2015, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute`s (SIPRI) arms transfer database. According to the database, the related contract to supply eight Mi-26T2 helicopters to Algeria was signed in 2015. The rotor-wing aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2017.

The previous contract between Russia and Algeria to supply six Mi-26 helicopters was signed in 2013 as a part of a huge defense deal valued at USD2.7 billion. In comparison with the database, Russia was to deliver the aforementioned rotor-wing aircraft in 2015-2016. As of early 2016, four Mi-26 helicopters were supplied to Algeria. In total, Algeria has ordered 14 Mi-26T2 helicopters and four of them have already beend delivered.
Mi-26T2 heavy military-transport helicopter (according to the Western designation, super-heavy helicopter) is the latest modification of the Soviet Mi-26 rotor-wing aircraft. Mi-26T2 has received glass cockpit with five multi-functional displays (MFD), new digital autopilot, NAVSTAR/GLONASS navigation system and new BREO-26 avionics suite. The helicopter`s crew was reduced to two pilots. Mi-26T2 has a lifting capacity of 20 t (or 82 soldiers), a cruise speed of 255 km/h and a flight range of 800 km. |
