EASA orders Airbus H225 Super Puma checks after fatal crash
|

The European Aviation Safety Agency has issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive (EAD) to all the operators of the Airbus Helicopters EC225 LP Super Puma platforms in order to go through checks, as a result of the 29 April fatal crash that killed 13 people off the coast of Norway. The helicopter was carrying personnel from an offshore oil and gas platform to the city of Bergen.

The EAD (No.: 2016-0089-E / 03 May 2016) is issued in accordance with Regulation (EC) 216/2008 on behalf of the EU, its Member States and of the European third countries that participate in the activities of EASA under Article 66 of that regulation.
According to the Directive, the partial information available indicates so far that the helicopter crashed due to the in-flight separation of the main rotor hub from the main gearbox. Nevertheless, the investigation is ongoing in order to identify the root cause of the fatal accident. EASA orders that all users of this type of helicopters should go through a series of checks as mentioned in the directive. If any findings are found, they should be reported to Airbus Helicopters and EASA. Flights would be resumed only after the corrective actions have been agreed by EASA. |
