Egypt about to take delivery of President-S countermeasures suites

Russia will start delivering President-S onboard defense systems to Egypt in 2016, First Deputy CEO of the Radio-Electronic Technologies Group (KRET) Igor Nasenkov said on Friday. The KRET Enterprise is a subsidiary of Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec. "The deliveries will start in the imminent future, within several weeks," Nasenkov said at a meeting of the KRET board.

The contract for the delivery of Russian-made President-S onboard defense systems was signed with Egypt last year.

The exact number of President-S onboard defense systems Russia will deliver to Egypt has not been specified.

The President-S onboard defense system is designed to protect military and civil aircraft and helicopters from air-launched and air defense missile systems, as well as ground and sea-based antiaircraft artillery systems.

The President-S onboard defense system can be mounted on the Kamov Ka-52 (NATO reporting name: Hokum-B), Mil Mi-28 (Havoc) and Mi-26 (Halo) helicopters.

The President-S onboard defense system can detect that the plane may be attacked by the enemy’s fighter jets, air defense missile and artillery systems.

The President-S onboard defense system can hit and destroy the optical homing heads of air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles, including the homing heads of missiles launched from mobile air defense missile systems.

The President-S system includes the following stations (units) that can be placed as basic and advanced options in various combinations, depending on the type and purpose of the aircraft: control device; radar warning receiver station; laser warning station; missile attack warning station; air dispenser for aircraft consumables (chaff cartridges, cartridges of infrared radiation, single use cartridges with transmitters, interference); setting active radio-interference station; no coherent optical-electronic suppression station; and laser optical-electronic suppression station.
