The defense company, affiliated with industrial conglomerate Hanwha Group, has tentatively clinched the contract to build an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar for some 120 fighter jets South Korea is seeking to develop by the mid-2020s, according to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
The formal contract will be signed sometime in June after negotiations on the terms of the contract, according to the DAPA. The homegrown fighter jet program, known as Korean Fighter Experimental, seeks to produce 120 twin-engine combat airplanes with domestic technology and a budget of some US$16 billion. |
