The company will also support the KDC-10 including the Remote Aerial Refueling Operator System for the Netherlands, the Defense Department pointed out.

"L-3 Communications, Vertex Aerospace LLC (L-3) [in] Madison, Mississippi, has been awarded a $1,910,525,014 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for KC/KDC-10 airframe contractor logistics support," the announcement said on Wednesday.

Work will be performed at Travis Air Force Base, California; McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; Greensboro, North Carolina; and the Netherlands, and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025, the announcement noted.

The McDonnell Douglas KC-10 Extender is an aerial refueling tanker and transport aircraft. The KC-10 can transport up to 75 people and nearly 76,560 kilograms of cargo a distance of about 7,040 kilometers unrefueled.

As of May 2014, 59 KC-10 tanker aircraft are in use in the US Air Force. Two KC-10s are operated by the Royal Netherlands Air Force 344th Transport Squadron, stationed on Eindhoven Airport.
