The MoU was signed by MBDA Deutschland GmbH’s Managing Director, Thomas Homberg and Roketsan’s President & CEO, Selcuk Yasar.
The weapon will be Roketsan’s Cirit 70mm laser-guided rocket, which started being developed in 2004. With a range between 1.5 and 8 km it is considered an affordable alternative to larger and expensive missiles to eliminating lightly armoured targets. The Tiger UHT is an attack helicopter designed to carry out fire support and anti-tank missions. Germany equips the helicopters with the MBDA PARS 3 anti-tank missiles. The platforms can also be equipped with MBDA Mistral or Raytheon FIM-96 Stinger air-to-air missiles. Thomas Homberg said that the latest MoU extends the existing cooperation between the two companies “in order to provide the required capability to the German Armed Forces”. Selcuk Yasar said this cooperation will bring together the capabilities of the laser-guided rocket “with MBDA Deutschland GmbH’s proven expertise on the platforms’ weapon management system”. |
