Pakistan selects Leonardo's AW139 helicopter for transport and EMS missions

The Italy-based defense giant Leonardo-Finmeccanica announced today that the Government of Pakistan has signed a contract for an undisclosed number of AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters to be used for transport and EMS missions.

"This event sets a major milestone for Leonardo and further expands the already successful presence of the AW139 and other models in the Country", stated Leonardo-Finmeccanica.
"Pakistan is one of several nations who have chosen or are already operating the AW139 for a range of government roles including Italy, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Thailand to name a few," the company added. In late may, Leonardo-Finmeccanica announced it signed a contract with Pakistan for an undisclosed number of AgustaWestland AW139 which will be used for search-and-rescue missions. The AW139 has a cruise speed of 165 knots (306 kph), a range in excess of 500 nm (927 km), endurance of 5 hours and superior hover performance. It also has one of the largest cabin in its class which can accommodate up to 15 passengers. |
