Raytheon gets a $49.5 mn contract from USSOCOM for Silent Knight Radar systems
 
The U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has awarded Raytheon Company a $49.5 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for continued low-rate initial production of the Silent Knight Radar system, the US Department of Defense announced on Monday on its website.

"The work will be performed in McKinney, Texas; and Forest, Mississippi, and is expected to be completed by October 2018. This contract will be funded via delivery/task orders, and depending on the requirement may be funded using research, development, test and evaluation; procurement; and operation and maintenance funding. The ordering period is valid for one year," the US DoD said.

"U.S. Special Operations Command, Tampa, Florida, is the contracting activity," the US DoD added.

Silent Knight is a next-generation TF/TA system for US SOCOM pilots using fully modern technology. The system will serve as a common multi-mode terrain following/terrain avoidance radar for a variety of platforms including the MH-47G helicopter, the lead aircraft for the program. The required capabilities of the Silent Knight radar reportedly include color weather display, a ground map mode experienced as a high-resolution display, detection and location of other aircraft and/or ships; and advances in terrain following and avoidance capabilities; and will be lighter and require less power than predecessors.

As a common system, Silent Knight can eventually be fielded on MH-60M, MC-130H, and CV-22 block 30 aircraft.
