Rolls-Royce receives $150mn in orders from USAF for C-130J engines support
 
Rolls-Royce has been awarded two contracts from the US Air Force to support the later's fleet of C-130J Super Hercules engines, the US Department of Defense announced yesterday, Jan. 28, 2016. The estimated total amount for this two contracts is $154mn.

Rolls-Royce first won a $77,920,767 firm-fixed-price delivery order for C-130J spare engines. The company will provide 24 AE2100D3 commercial engines for C-130J aircraft. Work will be performed at Indianapolis, Indiana, and is expected to be complete by Dec. 31, 2016. This contract involves foreign military sales to Saudi Arabia.


Rolls-Royce has also been awarded a $76,067,069 firm-fixed-price delivery order for C-130J propulsion system sustainment. The engine manufacturer will provide logistics support, program management support, engineering services, spares, and technical data in support of the C-130J propulsion system. Work will be performed at Indianapolis, Indiana, and is expected to be complete by Jan. 31, 2017.

The AE2100D3 engine is a two-shaft design, and was the first to use dual FADECs (full authority digital engine control) to control both engine and propeller. Each engine develops 4,637 shaft horsepower. The AE 2100D3 engine is coupled to a new-technology six-bladed Dowty propeller for use on the Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules and LM-100J transport aircraft.
