The production of the Mil Mi-28UB (NATO reporting name: Havoc) attack helicopter with the dual-control technology may start in the imminent future, Deputy Managing Director of Russia’s Rostvertol helicopter manufacturer Vadim Barannikov said on Wednesday. The Rostvertol Enterprise is a subsidiary of Russian Helicopters Group.

"As for the Mi-28UB helicopter, which is the version of the Mi-28N Night Hunter rotorcraft with the dual-control technology developed for the Russian Air Force, we received the relevant requirements from the Defense Ministry long ago. This work is under way," Barannikov said.
"I think that the enterprise will start producing Mi-28UB helicopters in the imminent future. We are ready to start producing helicopters of this type when the Defense Ministry places the relevant order," he added. According to the deputy managing director, the Mi-28UB helicopter will be similar to its export version with the dual-control technology, the Mi-28NE rotorcraft, by its characteristics. The dual-control technology allows operating the helicopter either from the pilot or the instructor cabin. According to Barannikov, talks are under way with "two-three foreign customers" on the delivery of Russian Mi-28NE helicopters. "Five-six countries showed great interest in the Mi-28NE helicopter at the MAKS 2015 international air show," the deputy managing director said. According to him, countries that operate helicopters of the Mi-8 (Hip)/Mi-24 (Hind) series have ordered Mi-28NE rotorcraft. Barannikov also said that Russian-made VK-2500 engines were mounted on Mi-28 helicopters. Thus, there is no problem with engine deliveries, he added. |
