Russia and Serbia may sign the contract for supply of two more Mil Mi-17V-5 medium military-transport helicopters to Belgrad in 2016, according to a Russian defense industry source. "Serbia ordered first pair of Mi-17V-5 helicopters in mid-2015. Both rotor-wing aircraft have been produced, painted in Serbian camouflage and prepared for the delivery, which is scheduled for late April. On April 12, Serbian Ministry of Defense officially issued pictures of two Mi-17V-5 helicopters prepared for delivery. Both rotor-wing aircraft were not equipped with air-launched weapons, such as S-8/S-13 unguided rockets.

The initial contract for supply of two Mi-17V-5 to Serbia was signed in August 2015. The agreement was valued at USD25.3 million (USD12.65 million per helicopter).

The Mi-17V-5 is a military transport variant in the Mi-8/17 "Hip" family of helicopters. It is produced by Kazan Helicopters. The Mi-17V-5 can be powered by either Klimov TV3-117VM or VK-2500 turbo-shaft engine. It has a maximum speed of 250km/h, and a standard range of 580km.
