Boeing lands $38 mn contract for French Air Force E-3F AWACS aircraft support

Boeing Defense has been awarded a $38,4 millon IDIQ contract for recurring and non-recurring engineering services to support the French E-3F AWACS aircraft mid-life upgrade in-service sustainment support, the US DoD announced on June 29.

"Work will be performed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and is expected to be complete by July 16, 2022. This award is the result of a sole-source acquisition. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, is the contracting activity," the US DoD said on its website.

The French Air Force currently flies a fleet of four E-3F AWACS aircraft, all assigned to the 36th Air detection and command squadron based at Avord Air Base.

The French E-3F aircraft have been modernized since 2013 through a $460 million contract signed with Boeing Defense. The Mid-Life Upgrade program included new mission computer, additional and more powerful consoles and a new IFF system.

The MLU program upgraded the aircraft to the Block 40/45 standard, similar to the US Air Force's E-3G Sentry platforms.
