DSA 2018: Deftech, Korean Air Lines and POSCO DAEWOO to partner on UAV area.
DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (Deftech), Malaysia’s premiere defence and aerospace company, yesterday signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with Korea’s largest trading company, POSCO DAEWOO, and Korean Air Lines Co. Ltd, one of the world’s biggest airlines and aerospace company.

The agreement will result in the enhancement of the UAV-RS made by Deftech. The UAV-RS is able to reach 120 km range line of sight at an altitude of 10,000 feet and can carry 20 kg of payload. This UAV is currently being used by the Agency Remote Sensing Malaysia (ARSM) under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOSTI).
Deftech, through its subsidiary Deftech Unmanned System Technology Sdn Bhd will be working closely with POSCO DAEWOO and Korean Air Lines to continue expanding and developing the UAV. The tripartite is also looking at opportunities to collaborate and offer MRO services in the region.
The agreement was signed at the Deftech pavilion during the 16th Defence Services Asia at MITEC. The documents were inked by Lt. Col. Dato’ Hj Amril Samsudin, CEO of Deftech, Lee Chang-Joo, Managing Director of POSCO DAEWOO Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and Kim Jae Woo, Director of Korean Air Lines.
