Belarus receives four repaired Su-25 CAS aircraft.

The Belarusian military has received four repaired Sukhoi Su-25 (NATO reporting name: Frogfoot-A) close air support (CAS) aircraft, according to the country’s State Committee for Military Industry (Goskomvoenprom, GKVP).

“On April 21, the Air and Air Defense Force [AADF; Voyenno-Vozdushniye Sily I Voyska Protivovozdushnoy Oborony, VVSiPVO] of the Republic of Belarus received the fourth Su-25 CAS aircraft, which had been repaired by JSC 558th Aviation Repair Plant [558 ARZ],"said the GKVP’s press department in a statement, The aircraft was handed over at Baranovichi airbase in the Brest Region.

According to the GKVP, the 558 ARZ finally implemented a contract for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of four more AADF Su-25 CAS aircraft. “The workers of the plant have completed the order ahead of schedule,” noted the press department.

The 558 ARZ has been upgrading Belarusian Su-25 and Su-25UB (‘UB’ for Operational-Training; Uchebno-Boyevoy) CAS aircraft since 1994. The enterprise has repaired some 100 Frogfoots, eight more aircraft have been upgraded in a deep manner.

According to the Military Balance 2020 book published by the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the Belarusian AADF operates 22 Su-25 and Su-25UB (Frogfoot-B) CAS aircraft.

The 558 ARZ also upgrades the Su-25 ground attack aircraft. The updated Frogfoot carries the R-73 (AA-12 Archer) air-to-air missiles, Kh-29T (AS-14 Kedge-B) air-to-surface missiles, S-13 rockets and KAB-500KR guided bombs. The cockpit of the platform has received two new MFDs and an upgraded ASP-17BTs sight. The sensor suite of the aircraft comprises the SNS navigation system with GLONASS and GPS channels, and the LINS inertial navigation unit. The modernized Frogfoot is fitted with a video recorder. The electronic protection of the upgraded Su-25 is reinforced with the Satellite/Satellite-M2 electronic warfare system.
