India adapts Astra missile to Su-30MKI fighter jet.

India has adapted the latest Astra guided air-to-air missile to Su-30MKI fighter jet, spokesman of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Narendra Kumar Aria told TASS.

Air-to-Air missile Astra successfully user flight-tested from Su-30 MKI aircraft off the Odisha coast on September 17, 2019. Astra is the first air-to-air missile developed by India. It features mid-course inertial guidance with terminal active radar homing. It is designed to be capable of engaging targets at varying ranges and altitudes allowing for engagement of both short-range targets at a distance of 20 km (12 mi) and long-range targets up to a distance of 80–110 km (50–68 mi). “We have adapted the new Astra missile to Su-30MKI,” he said adding Astra was displayed at Army-2021 forum.

“Russia and India maintain good, positive and fruitful cooperation. BrahMos successful joint venture is an example. We also displayed our products at Army-2021,” he said.

DRDO displayed two radars and new HELINA and NAG antitank missiles.

Astra air-to-air missile designed by DRDO is the first air weapon designed by India. Its range exceeds 100 km. Astra will be the basic long-range missile of the Indian Air Force.

Su-30MKI fighter jet is the backbone of Indian frontline aviation. The country operates close to 270 jets.
