The Mil Mi-24 is a large helicopter gunship, attack helicopter and low-capacity troop transport with room for eight passengers.
The aircraft are to replace the two lost within the space of five months. On 27 November 2019, a Mi-24D (TU-VHR) was lost in a collision ; on 18 March 2020, another Mi-24D (TU-VHO) came down at Felix Houphouet Boigny airport in Abidjan.
The first replacement aircraft was delivered on 7 August 2020 to coincide with the Ivory Coast’s 60th Independence Day. Both helicopters are believed to be ex-Bulgarian Air Force examples.
