“Under the exercise’s scenario, Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles were tasked to search for a simulated enemy’s military hardware and camp at a long distance from the base station,” the press office said.
“An Orlan-10 unmanned aerial system was launched from the Yurga training range in the Kemerovo Region [in western Siberia] to conduct aerial reconnaissance in the Altai Territory [in south Siberia],” the press office added.
During the flight, UAV control was transferred to an alternate command post. This allowed servicemen in the Altai Territory to take control over the drone when it was within their visual field.
During the flight that lasted more than eight hours, the drone covered a distance of more than 800 km [497 mi] and returned to the launch site.
