Raytheon awarded contract for F-15E APG-82 radar system.
The U.S. Department of Defense announced on June 9 that Raytheon has been awarded a $3,120,000,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for F-15 Radar Eagle Vision. This contract provides for the production, modernization and support of the F-15E APG-82 radar system to rapidly deliver and stay aligned with the F-15 Strike Eagle weapon system program. Work will be performed in El Segundo, California, and is expected to be completed on June 8, 2036.

This contract currently does not have any delivery orders for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) but does allow for future FMS orders and is the result of a sole-source acquisition. Fiscal 2021 aircraft procurement funds in the amount of $471,662 are being obligated at the time of the award. The F-15 Division Contracts Branch, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity.
The AN/APG-63 and AN/APG-70 are a family of all-weather multimode radar systems designed by Hughes Aircraft (now Raytheon) for the F-15 Eagle air superiority fighter. These X band pulse-Doppler radar systems are designed for both air-air and air-ground missions; they are able to look up at high-flying targets and down at low-flying targets without being confused by ground clutter. The systems can detect and track aircraft and small high-speed targets at distances beyond visual range down to close range, and at altitudes down to treetop level. The radar feeds target information into the aircraft's central computer for effective weapons delivery. For close-in dogfights, the radar automatically acquires enemy aircraft and projects this information onto the cockpit head-up display. The name is assigned from the Army Navy Joint Electronics Type Designation System.
The APG-82(V)1 AESA radar is the latest radar advancement for the U.S. Air Force F-15E fleet. It optimizes the F-15E’s multirole mission capability. In addition to its extended range and improved multi-target track and precision engagement capabilities, the APG-82(V)1 offers improvement in system reliability over the legacy F-15E APG-70 radar.
