Raytheon awarded contract for multi-spectral targeting systems for Royal Australian Air Force and US Navy Triton UAVs.
Raytheon Co., McKinney, Texas, is awarded a $23,175,000 firm-fixed-price order (N0016422FJ026) under basic ordering agreement N0016417GJQ02 for the procurement of multi-spectral targeting systems for the U.S. Navy Triton unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)

These systems provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) detection, identification and targeting capability in day/night operations for both manned and unmanned platforms. Work will be performed in McKinney, Texas, and is expected to be complete by March 2023.
Funding in the amount of $15,450,000 for the RAAF (66.67%); fiscal 2021 funds in the amount of $5,150,000 (22.22%); and fiscal 2020 aircraft procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $2,575,000 (11.11%) will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. In accordance with 10 U.S. Code 2304(c)(1), this contract was not competitively procured — only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Indiana, is the contracting activity.
Once completed and delivered, Triton’s powerful payload and endurance will provide the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) with the ability to detect and analyze threats that were previously undetectable.
Australia’s first Triton is on track to be delivered just as the U.S. Navy expects to achieve initial operating capability with their multi-intelligence Tritons, the same configuration Australia is receiving.
The identical capabilities will allow the RAAF and U.S. Navy to share data and maintain an unblinking autonomous intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting capability over some of the world’s most critical maritime regions.

The Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton is an American high-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) under development for the United States Navy as a surveillance aircraft.
The MQ-4C can remain aloft more than 30 hours at 55,000 ft (17,000 m) at speeds of up to 330 knots (380 mph; 610 km/h). Its surveillance sensor is the AN/ZPY-3 Multi-Function Active Sensor (MFAS) X-band AESA radar with a 360-degree field-of-regard, capable of surveying 2,700,000 sq mi (7,000,000 km2) of sea (as well as shoreline or land) in a 24-hour period, or 2,000 sq mi (5,200 km2) in a single sweep.
