Kronstadt Company signs state contract for preliminary design of Grom UAV.
MOSCOW, August 24. /TASS-DEFENSE/. The Kronstadt Company has started work on a preliminary design for the Grom multi-purpose high-speed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) under a relevant state contract, the company’s press office told TASS.

“We already have state contracts for the development of the preliminary design, we are working in this direction,” the press office said in response to a question about the work on the Grom UAV.
The Grom drone was unveiled at the Army 2020 forum. According to information provided by the company, the Grom is designed to act as a loyal wingman in an attack echelon together with manned aircraft. It has to expose and destroy air defenses, as well as surface ships and coastal facilities. One of its versions will be able to carry Kh-38 air-to-surface missiles.
In addition to its own combat capabilities, the Grom will be able to control a swarm of 10 Molniya combat drones. According to the company’s press office, Molniya drones will constantly communicate with each other and the controlling drone. “There is a constant data exchange among the drones. It is possible to change the mission of each drone in the swarm. Leaders may change and replace each other. The artificial intelligence allows fulfilling the mission within the group without constant communications with the carrier aircraft,” the press office said.
The Kronstadt Company carries out the full cycle of work, from UAV development to testing and certification. It specializes in developing airborne, ground-based and seaborne systems, training simulators and interactive systems. The company is the developer of Orion-E, Sirius and some other drones.
