The aircraft has its previous externals, but is based on entirely new technologies. The new machine has 80% upgraded and modernized systems and equipment.

The Tu-160M was demonstrated to Russian Minister Denis Manturov during a working visit to the Kazan Aircraft Production Association.

By the way, the first newly manufactured strategic bomber Tu-160M made its maiden flight on January 12, 2022.

The program of reproduction of Tu-160M was launched on the initiative of Vladimir Putin. To implement this program, the plant had to restore the unique technological cycle of strategic bombers production on the modern production base. Nowadays, the electron beam bonding unit of the Kazan Aircraft Production Association is the largest and most powerful in the world. Within the contract program between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and Tupolev, the design documentation for the Tu-160M was fully digitized in a short period of time. The plant launched the large-scale program of technical re-equipment and reconstruction of production facilities and its flight-testing base; a significant part of the staff got additional training.

The Tu-160 is the largest and most powerful supersonic aircraft with a variable-sweep wing in the history of military aviation. 

Russia’s Defense Ministry will receive the first newly-built Tu-160M strategic missile-carrying bomber until the end of the second quarter of this year for subsequent state trials and operational service, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said on February 4.
